Working the Woods

$16,500.00

36x48 oil on linen

It was very popular thirty years ago to plant Plantation Pines on pastures the farmer was no longer using. These red pines are good for pulp but not much else, and they were inhibiting the growth of the deciduous native trees unless thinned. I asked my neighbor Derrek to come with his team and do some logging. This painting and a couple of others came out of my spending time in the woods with the team. The pines were tall and skinny and beginning to fall over but meanwhile with the logging road, it inspired in me with the feeling of a cathedral with the team pulling some felled logs hard up the incline.
