Herring Creek where I grew up, still has some wonderful and natural shorelines. Brackish water estuaries there are called creeks and this one is large and open with marsh grasses, bay bushes and dead and living cedars hanging out into the waters. The water can be “slick cam” or slick calm, as the locals call it, when it is like glass. In this case, it was disturbed by my boat, sending a ripple all the way over to the distant shores. When I lived on Herring Creek in the house I built there, Francis Goddard built a skiff for me to use to paint from. it was a heavy 16’ skiff that would stand still when I stood up in it. This is the type of painting I did a lot of when I lived there but just recently did this one, after not painting shorelines for quite some time.
