This is Derek driving his team and his neighbor Jackson who is walking ahead with his big plastic buckets. He dumps the sap in the buckets and then to the tank on the sled behind the horses. They are coming up Bass Road, and behind them was this beautiful vista of the other hillside across the valley that at the time belonged to Bob Simpson. I loved making the painting large enough so the viewer would feel as if they too were on the road watching them drive up the hill with that big expansive view across the way.
